I knew these little butterfly napkin rings would have to make an appearance in the playroom because Q loves butterflies. Spring is the perfect time for them to "fly" out! I found a little potato masher in Q's kitchen things (I keep my eyes open for great kitchen gadgets for 25 cents each at our favorite thrift store and stock up!) and the napkin rings fit just great! Q practices threading the handle through the ring, we count the butterflies, and we talk about the parts of the butterfly (wings, antennae).
Older children can be taught to roll napkins and place the rings on correctly. I always put out napkin/napkin ring work for my 3 year-olds when I taught preschool and it was a favorite activity!
